Nairobi Vet Care

Vet services in Westlands

High-rise, high-density and increasingly vertical. Westlands pets are mostly small, mostly indoor, and have a distinct set of problems because of it.

Getting to you

Westlands is central and quick to reach outside rush hour. Waiyaki Way at peak is the main obstacle, so we would rather book a home visit mid-morning than sit in it.

Parking at the clinic

Parking in Westlands is genuinely difficult and most buildings charge. If you are bringing a nervous animal, tell us and we will suggest a quieter time.

Keeping a dog or cat in Westlands

Westlands pets live vertically, and that shapes almost everything we see here.

Balcony and window falls in cats are the injury we would most like to stop having to treat. Mesh across the opening solves it completely and costs very little. Cats do not have a reliable sense of the drop, and a passing bird is all it takes.

Small-breed dental disease is the other Westlands pattern. Apartment dogs here are small, small mouths crowd their teeth, and gum disease starts young. Bad breath in a three-year-old dog is not normal and is usually the first sign.

For cats, the combination of no outdoor space and a busy household produces stress-related urinary problems more often here than elsewhere. A male cat straining in the tray and producing nothing is an emergency measured in hours.

Common questions

How do I make a balcony safe for a cat?

Mesh or netting across the opening. Cats judge the jump, not the drop, and a bird or an insect is enough to commit them. This is the most preventable injury we see in Westlands.

My indoor cat has never been outside. Does it need vaccinating?

Yes. Rabies is a legal requirement regardless of lifestyle, and cat flu can arrive on your shoes. Indoor status reduces risk, it does not remove it.
