A home visit is roughly an hour of a vet’s time in Nairobi traffic for one household, so there is a call-out charge on top of the treatment. For some animals it is worth it several times over.
Cats are the clearest case. Most of what makes a cat difficult at the vet is the carrier and the car, not the examination. Seeing a cat at home gives a truer picture and a calmer patient.
It also suits nervous or reactive dogs that become a different animal in a waiting room, elderly pets for whom the journey is genuinely hard, households with several animals to see at once, and end-of-life care, where being at home matters enormously to families.
What we cannot do at home is anything needing general anaesthetic, sterile surgical conditions, imaging or in-house laboratory work. We will tell you that when you book rather than after we arrive.

Common questions
What cannot be done at home?
Anything needing general anaesthetic, sterile surgical conditions, x-ray or in-house lab work. We will always tell you in advance rather than arriving and sending you to the clinic anyway.
Is it worth the extra cost?
For cats, often yes on medical grounds alone: the car journey causes most of the stress and we see how the cat actually behaves at home. For households with three or four animals it is frequently cheaper than several clinic trips.
