Sterilisation is the one elective surgery most pets should have, and the quote should be the whole quote. Ours includes the anaesthetic, the surgery, take-home pain relief and the follow-up wound check.

Ask any clinic four questions before booking: is pain relief for the following days included, is the animal monitored while it wakes, is the wound check in the price, and is the quote the total. The answers tell you a great deal.

The fortnight afterwards is where recoveries are won or lost. The wound looks healed long before the internal layers are strong, so a dog that jumps off furniture on day six can undo work that looked perfect on day five.

Indicative market ranges for Kenya, reviewed 2026-08-29. This is not a quotation. Prices vary with your pet’s weight, the brand of vaccine or drug used, and whether the visit is at a clinic or at your home. Ask for a figure before treatment starts, any vet should give you one. If these are out of reach, the KSPCA runs subsidised sterilisation clinics and we would rather point you there than have the surgery not happen.

Common questions

Is my quote the total?

Yes. Pain relief and the follow-up check are in the figure. If we find something during the pre-op check that changes the plan, we ring you before doing anything.

What age?

Commonly five to six months. Some large breeds benefit from waiting longer for joint development, so ask about your specific dog rather than applying one rule to every size.
